UCC Sport Summer of Success

4 Jul 2024

This summer, University College Cork (UCC) proudly showcases a diverse range of athletes competing on both national and international stages. Our talented students and alumni are representing UCC across various sporting disciplines, highlighting our commitment to excellence in sports.

Among the sports in which UCC athletes are making their mark this summer are hockey, rugby, and soccer. Our UCC Hockey team boasts several standout players who have been selected for the Irish U21 team for the European Championships. Congratulations to Robyn Murphy and Julia McCarthy on their selection, while Lauren Cripps has been named a non-traveling reserve.

In rugby, UCC students Ben O’Connor and Sean Edogbo have retained their positions in the Irish U20 squad. They will be competing against Georgia on the 4th of July.

Congratulations to Eva Mangan for another call up to the Republic of Ireland Senior Womens Team. She is on the squad for the upcoming games against England and France.

UCC Rowing is particularly distinguished this year, with several current students and alumni preparing to compete in the upcoming Paris Olympics. Their dedication and hard work have culminated in this extraordinary achievement, bringing pride and inspiration to the entire UCC community.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to UCC student Mags Cremen and our esteemed graduates Aoife Casey, Paul O’Donovan, Fintan McCarthy, Aifric Keogh, and Emily Hegarty. These exceptional individuals have been officially selected to represent Ireland at the Olympic Games in Paris, a testament to their unwavering commitment and outstanding capabilities.

Their journey to the Olympics is a remarkable milestone, and we celebrate their success and the honour they bring to UCC. We wish them the best of luck as they prepare to compete on one of the world's most prestigious stages. Their achievements serve as an inspiration to all UCC students and alumni, illustrating the heights that can be reached through perseverance, talent, and dedication.
