University College Cork is one of the founding partners of UNIC, the European University of Cities in Post-Industrial Transition. UNIC is an alliance of ten universities across Europe who are working with their cities and with one another to tackle urban challenges and develop shared, sustainable futures.

The UNIC university partners are University College Cork, Erasmus University Rotterdam, Koç University Istanbul, University of Deusto in Bilbao, University of Liège, Ruhr University Bochum, University of Oulu, University of Zagreb, University of Lodz, Malmö University.

The UNIC European Post-Industrial Cities Leadership Forum brought together representatives of cities, universities, businesses, and civil society organisations in Zagreb on July 2nd to collaborate on concrete solutions to today’s urban challenges. Participants included leaders from across the 10 UNIC cities, as well as representatives from the academic and business sectors.

UNIC's BLENDS project secures €2m EIT funding

UNIC’s project, BLENDS (Boosting Learning in Entrepreneurship through New and Deepening alliance Synergies), was selected by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) under the EIT Higher Education Initiative 'Innovation Capacity Building for Higher Education 2025 Call'. UNIC will receive the maximum amount of €2m over a two-year-period to strengthen innovation and entrepreneurship capacity across the alliance.

Opportunity for PhD students: Academia to Entrepreneurial Impact (A2EI)

The Academia to Entrepreneurial Impact (A2EI) programme will take place again this year (Sept - Nov). It is a practical, hybrid programme designed for PhD and doctoral students who want to know more about innovation or explore the entrepreneurial potential of their research, as part of their career development journey. UNIC travel funding is available for two PhD students for the onsite training in Rotterdam.
