All Ireland Senior Hurling Final/UCC GAA

15 Jul 2024

On Sunday July 21st the greatest day in Irish sport will be played out in Croke Park, Dublin when Cork meet Clare in the 2024 All Ireland Senior Hurling Final.

Both teams have got to this stage after some outstanding displays and Sunday's final should add another chapter to the greatest field game in the world.

As always, UCC GAA Club will have a part to play in this year's final. The club has won 42 Fitzgibbon Cup championships and many of the players on Sunday have been  part of those triumphs with college in recent years.

On the Cork panel, current students are Cathal McCarthy (Sarsfields) Digital Humanities & Information, Shane Barrett (Blarney) Masters Accounting, Eoin Downey (Glen Rovers) Arts and his brother Robert (MSC Management Marketing), Robbie Cotter (Blackrock) Food Marketing & Entrepreneurship), Brion Saunderson (Midleton) Arts, Brian Hayes (St Finbarr's) MSC Management Marketing), Ben Cunningham (St Finbarr's) Commerce and Ethan Twomey (St Finbarr's) BIS, Cormac O'Brien (Newtownshandrum) Commerce, Ger Millerick (Fr O'Neill's) Sports Studies & Physical Education.

Graduates of the university involved in the game on Sunday are Conor & Damien Cahalane (St Finbarr's), Conor Lehane & Tommy O'Connell (Midleton), Shane Kingston (Douglas), Seamus Harnedy (St Ita's), Robbie O'Flynn (Erin's Own), Niall O'Leary (Castlelyons), Eoin Carey (Kilworth), Eoin Roche (Bride Rovers), Daire O'Leary (Watergrasshill), Jack O'Connor (Sarsfields), Darragh Fitzgibbon (Charleville), Mark Coleman (Blarney) and the captain of Cork Sean O'Donoghue (Inniscarra).

The sole Clare man pitted against all these Cork lads is graduate Shane O'Donnell of Eire Og Ennis.

We should be rightly proud of all  those named above and proud of what they have achieved and what they will achieve in the future.

The game is live on RTE & BBC.
