Showcasing research at the Collective Social Futures Festival of Social Science at UCC
The second annual Collective Social Futures Festival of Social Science took place at UCC on 25-26 November. Members of the PLRG were delighted to attend and present at this event, themed 'Social Science Matters: innovation, co-production and transformation'.
Dr Laura Linehan and Zara Harnett jointly presented on ‘Enhancing pregnancy loss and fertility awareness and knowledge amongst young people within school settings’. They shared the background to the SPRING Project and work being undertaken with secondary school students to co-design an information resource in a panel session titled ‘Re-imagining and enacting socially engaged research’. Professor Keelin O’Donoghue was also in attendance and is a member of the Collective Social Futures Board.
Professor Cathal O'Connell (Head of the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences-CACSSS) and Dr James Kapalo (Vice Head of Research and Innovation, CACSSS) provided opening remarks. The symposium was organised into five panels, across the three themes, with a keynote by Professor Linda Connolly who was the first Director of ISS21. Dr Noel O'Connell and Dr Gill Harold facilitated access to Irish Sign Language during the event.
Many thanks to Professor Maggie O'Neill, Dr Margaret Scanlon, Ashling O’Sullivan and all involved in organising this year’s Festival of Social Science. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet colleagues and learn more about the innovative, participatory and transformative research taking place across the social sciences at UCC.
