On the 21st May, Professor John Cryan, VP for Research and Innovation, hosted the launch of ‘Children in Conflict with the Law: Rights, Research and Progressive Youth Justice’, published by Palgrave Pivot as part of their series ‘Palgrave Critical Studies in Human Rights and Criminology’.

‘Children in Conflict with the Law’ utilises a uniquely interdisciplinary approach to research in the context of child justice. Informed by the international children’s rights standards, the research highlights key evidence to support implementation of a rights-based approach to children in conflict with the law, providing a base of advocates, policymakers, and practitioners to implement progressive approaches to children in conflict with the law.

The authors, Professor Ursula Kilkelly (UCC), Dr Louise Forde (Brunel University London), Dr Sharon Lambert (UCC), and Dr Katharina Swirak (UCC), each shared reflections on their disciplines within the text, and key aspects of their findings. Dr Nicola Carr (University of Nottingham, adjunct UCC) also shared reflections on the project, meriting the strength of the interdisciplinary nature of the research and the strength this lends to its recommendations for policymakers and advocates working with children in communities.
