Professor Christian Waeber Honoured at 2023 UCC Research and Innovation Awards

On 29 May 2024, Christian Waeber, Professor in Pharmacology with the School of Pharmacy and Head of the Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics, was named a joint winner of the Creating a Culture for Responsible Conduct of Research award at the 2023 University College Cork Research and Innovation Awards. This award recognises significant contributions to research and innovation. He was honoured for promoting ethical practices in the use of animals in research, enhancing UCC's reputation both nationally and internationally.

Professor Waeber's research focuses on studying sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) and its effects on the vasculature, brain, and immune system with implications for stroke treatment. His team has characterised fingolimod's effects on rodent stroke models and is involved in clinical studies on lymphocyte populations and stroke recovery.
