Conference Presentation

22 Nov 2023

Iryna Stavynska presented a paper at the annual American Folklore Society conference.

Iryna Stavynska, researcher from the Cyber Social team, presented a paper on Ukrainian folk art and resistance at the annual American Folklore Society conference. Before joining Cyber Social, Iryna was a Fulbright scholar pursuing a graduate degree in Folklore at the University of Oregon. During her time in Oregon, she documented Ukrainian folk artists across Oregon, focusing on the creative ways in which they use their art to aid resistance towards the Russian invasion of Ukraine. As a result of this project, Iryna was able to build connections between University of Oregon and the Ukrainian community, and help bring Ukrainian folk artists to the annual American Folklore Society conference, ensuring that the Ukrainian struggle is not forgotten. Iryna also presented a paper at the conference, where she discussed her experience working with the Ukrainian community, the struggles they are facing, and the creative ways in which they are coping with these challenges.
