Cork Docklands to take part in EU Digital Twin Project TIPS4PED.

8 Feb 2024

Cork Docklands is set to take part in the EU project "TIPS4PED". TIPS4PED will design, develop and test the effectiveness and technical-economic feasibility of a platform based on the creation of a digital twin model (Digital Twin) to support municipalities in implementing positive energy districts (PEDs).

Cork City Council - Comhairle Cathrach Chorcaí and Cork Docklands is taking part in the TIPS4PED project which will help drive the Smart City agenda in Cork.

Funded by the European Commission under a 2023 EU Climate-Neutral & Smart Cities Mission call for ‘Zero Emissions Mobility and Positive Clean Energy Districts’. TIPS4PED will design, develop and test the effectiveness of a digital twin model (Digital Twin) to support cities in implementing positive energy districts (PEDs).

The project will adopt a people-centric approach, involving training and empowering citizens and other key city stakeholders. Positive Energy Districts require integration between buildings, users, the energy network, mobility and IT systems. A Positive Energy Urban Energy District is an energy and C02 self-sufficient urban environment.

The TIPS4PED solutions will be tested in Turin, chosen as the flagship city (Light House), while replicability studies will be conducted in three follower cities (Cork, Kozani and Budapest). The testing and replicability phase will lead to the creation of four digital twin cities and decarbonisation maps.
