UCC Staff Bloom in the Community Garden

30 May 2024

UCC Community Garden, though founded and carefully tended by students in 2009, is open to the entire UCC Community. It receives generous care and attention from a select few UCC staff and retired staff, but it remains an unvisited mystery for many who work on our green campus.

Recent visits by staff to the Community Garden showcase just how beneficial this special green place can be for mind, body and spirit. During Staff Wellbeing Week, a tour of campus green spaces included a visit to UCC Community Garden, in collaboration with UCC’s Staff Wellbeing team. Participants got a tour of the garden and its produce from our Greenshoots Garden Intern, Ella, following Irene’s guided wander through green spaces on UCC main campus.

On the 16th of May, Ella and Irene were delighted to welcome staff from UCC’s Psychology Department to the garden. The team got familiar with all that grows in the garden (cultivated and wild) thanks to Ella’s guidance. Reviews of the event were hugely positive! It was great to see psychology researchers enjoying the practice they recommend: spending time in good quality green spaces.

If you’re involved in the UCC community and would like to organise a solo/group trip to the garden, don’t hesitate to contact Irene at inishuilleabhain@ucc.ie. We also host regular events in the garden throughout the year, which we welcome all to attend!
