UCC's head Gardener Jack Murphy explains that our meadow and no mow areas of campus have all been cut. The cut material is left for four to seven days for the seeds to drop after which the process of raking off and removing all the cut material will begin. This helps in reducing the fertility of the soil and an increase in diversity next year.

Dr Maria Kirrane shares her experience as a Mayo woman & UCC BEE's Ecology graduate and her road to becoming Head of Sustainability with Professor Paul McSweeney, Vice President for Learning and Teaching. She explains how the Office of Sustainability and Climate Action supports teaching and learning through the development of tools like the SDG toolkit for teaching (with the Centre for the Integration of Teaching and Learning) and how this tool enables teaching staff to bring sustainability into their modules.

Second Hand September sees the launch of Fashforward Repair Kit

Use of second-hand items and repairing to reduce environmental impact is championed this month for Second-Hand September. In line with this UCC's Green Campus were delighted to have FashForward in UCC to demonstrate their clothing repair kits, which are available for all students to loan from UCC Boole Library. The two kits include materials for denim patching and repair and sewing buttons/mending seams. The kits are accompanied by online demonstrations.
