The International Association for Plant UV Research, UV4Plants, is organising a workshop on

“Modulation of plant UV-responses by environmental factors”

Organisers; Prof Marcel Jansen (UCC) and Dr Otmar Urban (CzechGlobe) Location; Brno (Czech Republic), June 27-28, 2017

DOWNLOAD THIS ANNOUNCEMENT HERE: 1st_Announcement_UV_Workshop_Brno_2017 (PDF, 400KB) Dear Colleagues, You are kindly invited to participate in a workshop organised by the International Association for Plant UV Research, UV4Plants. The meeting will be organised in Brno, Czech Republic on June 27 and 28, 2017. The host organization is CzechGlobe ( http://czechglobe.cz/en/), and organisers are Dr Otmar Urban (CzechGlobe, Brno Czech Republic) and Prof Marcel Jansen (UCC, Ireland). The objective of the workshop is to bring together plant-scientists with an interest in the cross-talk between UV-B and other environmental drivers such as CO 2, drought, temperature and/or various stressors. It is expected that an important topic at the workshop will be UV-mediated cross-tolerance and/or cross-sensitivity at the biochemical, physiological and organismal levels. The workshop addresses three topical questions; (1) is the UV-sensing capability of plants simply linked to UV-protection, or does it contribute to a more comprehensive priming of plant protective responses? (2) can UV-B be exploited to boost plant tolerance to other environmental parameters? (3) should published reports on UV-mediated stress be interpreted in the context of a wider range of environmental parameters? The format of the workshop will be a 1.5 day meeting with a small number of key-note talks, around 10-15 short talks and three round-table discussions. This is a discussion-intensive meeting and attendance will be capped at around 15-20 delegates. Candidates will be selected based on the relevance and quality of submitted abstracts. Following the meeting, there will be an opportunity to publish papers in a dedicated section of Plant Physiology and Biochemistry (subject to peer review).
General information
The workshop will take place at CzechGlobe, Brno, Czech Republic. The meeting is planned for one-and-a-half days, starting in the morning of June 27, and finishing around lunch-time on the 28 th. Participants are advised to arrive in Brno on the 26 th of June. The workshop will take place in the attractive Moravian city of Brno. There is a range of affordable hotels in Brno. Travel from either Vienna or Prague airports is easy with an hourly bus-service operating. Alternatively, Brno can be reached by car or train. Details will be provided in the next circular. There is a range of hotels in Brno, including budget B&B options and comfort hotels, within reasonable distance of the workshop venue. A list of recommended hotels will be provided in the next circular. The workshop fee is €60.- for UV4Plants members (€75.- for non-members), and this covers three coffee/tea breaks and two lunches, an excursion to the Mendel museum/monastery ( https://mendelmuseum.muni.cz/en), and a social dinner at Pivovarska restaurant ( http://pivovarskastarobrno.cz/). Four bursaries of €200.- each will be made available to support travel and/or accommodation costs. These bursaries will be awarded based on the quality and relevance of the abstract, with a preference for early stage researchers. Please note that bursaries require appropriate receipts for accommodation and/or travel (train, bus, plane but NOT car).
