Congratulations to Dr Rasha Alshaikh
The Departmemt would like to congratulate Dr Rasha Alshaikh for defending her PhD Thesis.
The Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at University College Cork is delighted to announce that Rasha Alshaikh has successfully defended her thesis, earning her the title of Doctor with flying colours.
Dr Alshaikh's pioneering research focused on the characterisation of the efficacy of siponimod, a novel therapeutic agent for the management of ocular neovascular diseases. Her work has led to the development of controlled release formulations designed to reduce the frequency of intraocular injections, a significant advancement in patient care.
Supervised by Prof Christian Waeber and Dr Katie Ryan, Dr Alshaikh’s research holds promise for substantially improving the management of disorders such as age-related macular degeneration, a major cause of blindness worldwide. Her contributions to the field are expected to have a lasting impact on ocular health and treatment protocols.
