UCC hosts visit by President, Salve Regina University, Newport, Rhode Island
12.11.2008

Sister Thérèse Antone, President, Salve Regina University paid a courtesy visit to UCC earlier this week.
Salve Regina College was chartered by the State of Rhode Island in 1934. Founded under the sponsorship of the Sisters of Mercy, Salve Regina was established as an independent institution in the Catholic tradition of education, providing higher education to women and men.

There are currently two BComm students studying at Salve Regina. In both 2007/2008 and 2006/2007 two BComm students studied at Salve Regina, while in 2005/2006 a student from the Department of Music spent the year at the university.

The undergraduate academic programmes are based on the liberal arts, offering concentrations in the arts and sciences and in pre-professional and professional programmes. The university offers Associate, Baccalaureate, and Master's degrees, the Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study, and the PhD in Humanities. Salve Regina enrols 2,600 men and women from 42 states and 17 nations.

Ms Louise Tobin, former International Education Officer (now Director of International Recruitment and Strategy), visited Salve Regina in November 1999 and March 2000. These visits took place in the context of the office’s Junior Year Abroad (JYA) promotional campaign in the New England region.

Newport, Rhode Island, is twinned with Kinsale, Co. Cork, and this relationship has proved useful in terms of UCC’s visibility at Salve Regina.  Following the establishment of the relationship in 1999 Salve Regina has now become an important partner of UCC.

Sr. Thérèse Antone, President, Salve Regina University, was accompanied by her brother, Dr George Antone, who is the Director of the Office of International Programs, at the university.
