Child and Family Welfare Teaching is the focus for discussion at a
colloquium taking place at UCC on Friday, 21 April. Hosted by
UCC's Department of Social Studies, the colloquium is aimed at
social work educators in Ireland and Northern Ireland. The
principal themes of the colloquium are:
- Preparing social work students for practice realities in child and family welfare
- The scholarship of teaching and learning
- Future links and networking
The Colloquium opens at 10am on 21 April with Opening Addresses by
Kenneth Burns and Dr Debby Lynch of the Department of Applied Social
Studies, UCC followed by UK Educators, Dr Mark Lymbery from the
University of Nottingham and Professor Imogen Taylor, University of
Sussex. The morning session closes with a round table discussion.
The afternoon session consists of Research Presentations featuring
delegates who will talk about their teaching/research related to child
and family welfare. A round table discussion on the theme "Future
links and networking" follows.
Colloquium organisers are Kenneth Burns and Dr Debby Lynch.
According to Dr Lynch "The event will create an opportunity to develop
an active network of social work educators in Ireland and Northern
Ireland and stimulate discussion and debate in relation to child and
family welfare teaching practices and research endeavours."
The Colloquium takes place on Friday, 21 April in the Beara Room, Devere Hall (Aras na Mac LĂ©inn).
