About

MESA investigates the effects and applications of materials in the environment. Our research tackles important environmental issues using a combination of interdisciplinary thinking and a focus on real-world application.

Current group members incorporate diverse expertises including analytical chemistry, ecotoxicology, environmental sensing, materials science and nano-fabrication. The group benefits from direct contact with the university's varied research ecosystem and world-class infrastructure, as well as ties with other national and international institutes.

Our current research primarily focuses on the following topics:

  • Novel materials for environmental applications
  • Novel methods for the detection of emerging contaminants in the environment
  • Conceptualisation and characterisation of environmental processes

MESA is based in the School of Biological, Earth & Environmental Sciences (BEES), University College Cork, Ireland.
