Clinical Commencement Ceremony 2023

The School of Medicine Clinical Commencement Ceremony took place earlier on in the year on Friday the 13th of January 2023.

This was to mark the 2021/2022 class celebrate a key transition in the Medicine Programme. Students are moving from the predominantly campus-based learning with focus on medical sciences supported by simulated clinical learning to a predominantly clinical professional education delivered through clinical placements.

It was a pleasure to welcome everyone back in person to celebrate the completion of the first phase of the Medicine degree programme. On the day we had circa over 300 students and their guests to mark the event.

Professor O’ Leary congratulated all on the accomplishment and importance of getting to this stage. She highted how privileged we are to have access to clinical sites all over the country, staff and most importantly patients for the purpose of developing as medical practitioners.

Prof Helen Whelton (Head of College of Medicine and Health) introduced and thanked our guest speaker Dr. Suzanne Crowe, president of the Medical Council of Ireland. Dr. Crowe provided an inspiring speech to all and highlighted the importance of professionalism and incorporating this throughout their training and career.

Heads of department along with clinical site leads were also able to join us on the day. Despite the rain, it did not damped a highly enjoyable, well deserved occasion!
