12th of March 2018

The inaugural “Girls into Geoscience – Ireland” event was a great success, with over 20 attendees supported and enthused by four invited speakers, five volunteers from the Irish Association of Women Geoscientists and our two co-hosts Maria McNamara and Fergus McAuliffe. The four invited speakers were inspiring and all repeated the message that career choices at 18 don’t define the rest of your working career and that career paths are often winding! The workshops gave attendees their first opportunity to undertake experiments on minerals and to probe GIS data and were a huge hit. It was great to speak to all the attendees about our work and careers on a one-to-one level during the speed networking session. All in all, a great day, and something we’ll definitely run again – watch this space.
