Registration open for the 18th annual UCC Law and the Environment conference

This year’s conference will take place on Thursday 23 April, and will consider the theme “Environmental Rights: From Discourse to Legal Action”

The prestigious Law and the Environment conference is returning to UCC this April for its 18th year. The conference provides a regular forum for the expert presentation of legal developments and research results in the area of Environmental Law, Regulation and Policy.

This year’s sessions will focus on the evolution of the discourse on various forms of environmental rights into actual legal obligations, which are intended to guide the conduct of all key actors in environmental governance, including State agencies, business, civil society organisations and international bodies.

World-leading academics and expert practitioners in the area of environmental rights will be coming to Cork to discuss a range of high-profile and timely issues. 

Programme highlights

Highlights of this year’s programme will include:

  • Mr Gregory Jones Q.C. of Francis Taylor Building, Inner Temple, London considering, “Legal Liabilities and Green Finance: Is a Greenmark the answer?
  • Professor Patrick Parenteau of Vermont Law School, presenting “Latest Developments in US Climate Litigation
  • Professor Colin Reid from the School of Social Sciences, University of Dundee, discussing “Pitfalls in Promoting Environmental Rights

As well as sessions dedicated to the theme of environmental rights, this year’s conference will also include its usual well-established and popular specialist sessions considering contemporary developments in such areas as:

  • Marine Environment Law;
  • Planning Law;
  • Fisheries Law; and
  • Climate and Energy Law.

Registration is now open for this year’s conference, which will be of particular interest to policy-makers and regulators, regulated operators, the environmental NGO community, advocacy professionals in the field of environmental rights, and Irish (and overseas) academic researchers and professionals.

Single delegate: €245 (Early-bird rate €195)

Two delegates: €400 (Further reductions available for multiple delegates)

Academics: €150

NGOs: €95

Newly qualified solicitors / barristers (less than five years): €150

This event is free of charge for UCC students, who are welcome and encouraged to attend.
