FUAIM is very happy to reveal - finally! - that the Mystery Guest artists performing this week's Friday lunchtime concert are the contemporary Irish music ensemble, Strung.

Comprising Maria Ryan (violin/vocals), Lucia Mac Partlin (violin), Séan Warren (cello) and Aonghus McCarthy (piano), Strung is a dynamic young ensemble based in Cork. Their original and captivating sound, characterised by innovative explorations of traditional Irish melodies, motifs and complex harmonies, has been described by Pádraig Rynne as 'a new approach to the tradition using the rarely heard instrumentation of piano, two fiddles and cello.'

In March 2016, Strung were winners of the Michigan Irish Music Initiative, a national competition for up-and-coming traditional Irish groups. In September 2016, they performed at the Michigan Irish Music Festival, an experience they will never forget. They were very well received by the American audience at the festival and were given a platform to go on to perform in many other diverse settings. After such a successful trip to America, Strung released their self-titled debut album in Ireland at the end of 2016 to positive reviews and packed-out launches. One of Strung's recent achievements was playing alongside the Cork Opera House Orchestra for the Right Here Right Now festival in an orchestrated performance of their album. It was a real highlight for the ensemble to perform with such incredible musicians in the beautiful setting of the Cork Opera House.
