About

Welcome to the Energy Policy and Modelling Research Group

EPMG Team

At the forefront of researching the future of Ireland's energy system, the EPMG is dedicated to applying energy systems modelling and our expertise in the energy transition to advance the evidence base for the sustainable energy transition in Ireland and beyond.

Our interdisciplinary research explores possible low-carbon energy futures and the role that technologies, demand, society and policy play in bringing these about.

Our group develops a suite of energy systems modelling tools focussing on different aspects of the energy system, which map how sustainable energy solutions could evolve in response to policies and other drivers.

We engage extensively across society to improve the public’s understanding of the role of the energy system in driving climate change, energy security and the economy, and through our research and engagement we seek to help address the multiple challenges facing society through the lens of energy.

We currently have no vacancies.

Applicants at a PhD or postdoc level with interest and skills in energy systems modelling can send a general inquiry with a CV and motivation letter to epmg@ucc.ie.

Research Centres

The Energy Policy and Modelling Group is supported by MaREI and the ERI. Please see below for more information on these research centres.

MaREI

MaREI is the SFI Research Centre for Energy, Climate and Marine research and innovation co-ordinated by the Environmental Research Institute (ERI) at University College Cork. The Centre comprises over 220 researchers focusing on defined global challenges such as the Energy Transition, Climate Action and the Blue Economy.

ERI

The Institute has six research centres conducting fundamental and applied research to generate new knowledge for, and solutions to, specific environmental challenges.
