New Directions and Reflections for Refugee Related Research
Professor Alice Bloch (University of Manchester)
7th February 2019
2.00-3.00pm, CACSSS Seminar Room, G27 O’Rahilly Building
This paper sets out to reflect on the development of and directions for refugee related research in the social sciences. It considers theoretical developments and changing research agendas in response to geo-political changes, changing mobilities and bordering practices, the lingering effects of the colonial and post-colonial world order and global inequalities. Global forced migration and displacement is constantly changing and these real world changes call for a rethinking of concepts in the scholarly field and a reassessment of the policy interventions that reflect the contemporary forced migration landscape. This paper will consider some of the key contemporary issues that are framing or should frame research and scholarship.
