CacaoWiRe - Science with Culture

About CacaoWiRe

Nearly everyone loves chocolate. This well-loved confectionary is an important industry that supports farmers in many parts of the tropics and retailers all over the world. There is an increasing demand for chocolate and it's production is threatened by climate change and disease. Chocolate, or cacao, is sourced from Theobroma cacao, a tree that is native to the tropical rain forests of the Americas. There are many related species. We aim to investigate whether an understanding of the biology of those species might be used to improve cacao production.
