Honan Square Phase 1 and 2

Honan Square Plaza Phase 1 and 2

This project was the centrepiece of the Environmental Plan (€6m). It included a new wide walkway and amphitheatre in front of the Student Centre/Honan Chapel and O'Rahilly Building. The new walkway is set out from two mature sequoia trees at thewestern end and ends at the east in an amphitheatre with raised seating area. The amphitheatre can be used for casual meetings, outdoor theatre, performance and special events. The Plaza area in front of the Boole has been widened through reduction of the grassed area south of the trees, thus creating an easier throughflow of students when gatherings grow following lectures. As part of Phase II the coblelock of Phase I has been extended at western end across north/south roadway to arch gateway to link up with the widened Boole Plaza. Immediately south of the foregoing a new bus shelter is provided for disabled persons awaiting services.
