Amgen Scholars Programme

A placement briefing on the Amgen Scholars Programme held on Tuesday 9th October 2018 at 18:00 was organised by Dr Sinéad Kerins, School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, UCC. Biochemistry students Danny Collins and Shane O’ Carroll, and Biomedical Science students, Clíona O’Shea and James Harte discussed their experience of completing this programme and provided information on their research projects. Danny, Clíona and James conducted their research at laboratories in Cambridge and Shane conducted his research project at Institut Pasteur. As a group they provided information on the Amgen Scholars Symposium and social aspects of the programme. Danny, Clíona, James and Shane all found the experience hugely beneficial and extremely enjoyable. In addition to enhancing their research skills, it has provided them with contacts for potential PhD supervisors and they made “friends for life” with other Amgen Scholars!
