School of BEES collects Athena SWAN award
The School of BEES was recently awarded a Bronze Athena SWAN award at an event held in Dublin.
Head of the School of BEES Athena SWAN committee, Prof. Astrid Wingler said of the event: “The awards ceremony was a great opportunity to catch up with our UCC colleagues and also to celebrate with other Irish universities. It was very encouraging to see the positive attitude and willingness to work together to improve opportunities for all. It was also useful to learn more about positive action to support women and how to implement it without discriminating against men.”
The School of BEES has received an Athena SWAN award for its ongoing commitment to promoting good employment practices for women in science in higher education. As part of writing this successful application, the School identified obstacles in the career progression of women and developed specific actions how these obstacles can be overcome and how working conditions can be improved for everyone in the School. The School also work with UCC and outside organisations to promote the careers of women in STEM subjects.
The School of Chemistry and the School of Pharmacy at UCC also received awards at the event.
