Dr. Eric Downer, Dept. Anatomy and Neuroscience, participated in Cork leg of the Pint of Ireland Festival. Pint of Science is a festival that aims to make science accessible and fun by bringing current scientific research to the welcoming atmosphere of the pub.
It is a non-profit organization established by a group of postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers in 2012 and runs in the USA, UK. The 2014 festival takes place over three days (19th-21st May) in six countries (USA, UK, France, Switzerland, Australia and Ireland). The Irish leg took place across 4 Dublin pubs (The Stag's Head, Odessa, 4 Dame Lane & Mercantile), while the Cork leg was held in the Porterhouse on May 20th, where researchers from UCC, University of Limerick and the Tyndall Institute gave talks on a broad range of research topics from nuclear fusion to fecal transplants. Dr. Downer’s talk entitle “High Hopes for Multiple Sclerosis” focused on the patient-orientated research currently ongoing in his lab.
