Note: On the afternoon of 6 November 1921 a party of armed and masked young men (seven or eight in number) visited the house of Kate Crowley at Crossfield near Ballyclough. Her husband Patrick, a farmer, was absent at the time. He claimed that his wife had died the next day from shock over the terrifying visit. He and his eldest son Daniel refused to provide any further information to the authorities. See Breaches of the Truce, Co. Cork: RIC Reports (CO 904/152, TNA).

Kate Crowley was in 1911  the wife of the Gortnagross (Ballyclough) farmer Patrick Crowley and the mother of their three sons—Daniel, Patrick Jr, and Edward. Kate Crowley was 39 years old at the time of the 1911 census.
