Teresa Murphy (BA Joint Honours, Italian and History, 1984)

'After graduating in 1984 and doing my HDip in 1985, I travelled to Rome where I taught English for one academic year and immersed myself in the language. When I returned I got a job tutoring First-Year students in the Italian Department, UCC. I stayed there for 2 years, and on winning an Italian government scholarship I returned to Italy, this time to Bologna. Unfortunately I was unable to undertake my MA due to administrative difficulties and thereafter began a career in EFL. Over the years I completed my RSA Diploma in TEFL in Dublin and got into teacher training and materials development. I also spent one year in Madrid, as part of this and as a result learnt Spanish. Now due to a recent berevement I find myself back in Cork and looking to expore other avenues outside the classroom, starting with my current position of Sales Rep of a language school for French and German. The only thing I know is that I would like to make use of my languages, as I love both of them including the culture and everything connected.' (November 2001)
