1 Aug 2024

Donnchadh has been awarded this prize for his final-year Major Study composition project, Éist le Fuaim na hAbhann. Echoing Sean-nós in Contemporary Classical Composition. The project is a work for three instrumentalists that interrogates the composer’s relationship with sean-nós song and its usage as musical material in contemporary classical composition.

A select panel of faculty from across the School of Film, Music and Theatre has awarded this project for its exceptional innovation and creativity and for the originality of its approach to the research and compositional processes. The outstanding quality of the composition is matched by insightful commentary that demonstrates Donnchadh’s deep understanding of both sean-nós song and the chosen compositional language.

Comhghairdeas, Donnchadh! Congratulations, Donnchadh!
