The mission of the Centre for Global Development is to support, enhance and promote UCC’s commitment to addressing the challenges of sustainable global development.  Since 2011 the centres trans-disciplinary educational work has promoted social justice and sustainable development at a local and global level through harnessing the collective knowledge, capacity and creativity of UCC and its community partners. 

In 2018 a major conference, Global Hunger Today: Challenges and Solutions was held in conjunction with the National Famine Commemoration in UCC drawing attention to new approaches to overcoming hunger and food insecurity.

The UCC Centre for Global Development and Irish Forum for International Agricultural Development (IFIAD) were delighted to hold the Irish launch of the EAT-Lancet Commission Report on Food, Planet, Health.
