Cancer Research @UCC is home to laboratory-based scientists and clinical researchers, alongside their research, technical and administrative teams. Our team interfaces with cancer researchers across UCC and (inter) nationally, and the region's UCC-affiliated hospitals and cancer clinical trials units.

Governance

Cancer Research @UCC operates under the highest standards of governance, ensuring transparency, accountability, and strategic excellence through three core bodies:

Leadership Team

Our Leadership Team is the central decision-making authority, meeting regularly to drive strategic and operational priorities. This group includes senior leadership from UCC and key programme leads, enabling rapid responses to emerging opportunities and challenges.

Governance Board

The Governance Board provides oversight and expert advice to guide strategic planning and operational execution. Its role is to ensure alignment with our mission, delivery of key objectives, and achievement of performance targets. Members include senior academic leaders, external advisors, and stakeholders with deep expertise in healthcare, research policy, and innovation.

Scientific Advisory Board (SAB)

Our Scientific Advisory Board comprises internationally recognized experts in oncology, translational medicine, and biomedical research. The SAB advises on research direction, evaluates scientific progress, and ensures our programmes remain at the forefront of global cancer research.

Our Staff and Researchers

Our people are our greatest asset. Cancer Research @UCC brings together a dynamic team working collaboratively to tackle the complexity of cancer biology and treatment.

We combine expertise in laboratory science, clinical practice, and translational research to ensure discoveries move seamlessly from bench to bedside, improving patient outcomes and shaping the future of cancer care.

Cancer Research @UCC is about people. It is about shared knowledge, collaboration, and multidisciplinary teams. It is about creating an environment that fosters learning, innovation, and impactful research.

Our team is truly international, with researchers and clinicians from Ireland and across the globe. Together with our extended network of over 100 individuals—including research assistants, PhD candidates, MD fellows, postdoctoral researchers, independent investigators, and dedicated administrative staff—we form a vibrant community committed to advancing cancer research and care.
