Youth and Community Work Student Bursary Applications Now Open

2 Aug 2024

ACE is delighted to share that AIEB has granted us 6 student bursaries for year 1 of the Diploma in Youth and Community Work.

We are excited to announce that six student bursaries have been made available for the 2024/25 academic year for our esteemed Diploma in Youth and Community Work programme. This initiative has been made possible through a grant to the All Ireland Endorsement Body for Community Work Education and Training (AIEB) from the Department of Rural and Community Development (DRCD).

The part-time, two-year Diploma in Youth and Community Work is designed to equip students with essential skills and knowledge for a career in the youth and community sector. It is ideal for those interested in working in the community, current employees, or volunteers seeking to enhance their professional development.

About the Diploma Program:

The program prepares students for entry-level positions in the Youth and Community sector and serves as a pathway for further studies towards a professional qualification. Graduates have the opportunity to progress to the Bachelor of Youth and Community Work at UCC.

Students will gain a solid understanding of the theory that guides good practice and develop professional skills such as reflective practice, group work and facilitation, strategic planning, report writing, and research engagement. The curriculum also includes exploring various theoretical approaches to Youth and Community Work and the history and development of social intervention.

In the second year, students undertake 100 hours of placement with a local agency, guided by our course placement officer. This hands-on experience allows students to apply theory to practice, enhance their skills and knowledge, and engage in reflective learning through supervision. They will also explore different models of youth and community work, theories of poverty and social exclusion, and practical skills for managing youth and community projects.

Bursary Details:

The student bursaries will cover the cost of fees for Year 1 of the Diploma in Youth and Community Work. This support is a one-time award aimed at easing the financial burden for eligible students. Please note that funds are limited to six bursaries, and not all applicants may receive funding. Students will be responsible for their Year 2 fees or may seek sponsorship from their employer.

Application Information:

Eligible course applicants are invited to apply for one of these bursaries to support their studies in the 2024/25 academic year. Applications will close on Friday, February 9th, 2024.

We encourage all prospective students who are passionate about making a difference in their communities to apply for this unique opportunity. The Diploma in Youth and Community Work offers a comprehensive education and practical experience that is invaluable for a rewarding career in the sector.
