Course Overview: 

This 8-week course focuses on the causes of conflict and human rights abuses. Each lecture incorporates a wide variety of audio and visual material to examine current political and social events such as the growth of far-right politics in Europe and the US, tensions in the Middle East and social media’s role in spreading conspiracy theories.  

 

Course Schedule:

  1. Them and Us:  How The Nazis Created Divisions in Society. 
  1. Doomsday Clock: How Nuclear Weapons changed the nature of War. 
  1. Shifting Sands – The Changing face of the Middle East 
  1. Mandela, Apartheid and The Path of Reconciliation. 
  1. “Black Lives Matter” – America’s Struggle with Racism. 
  1. Conspiracy Theories and the Social Media Age.  
  1. Trump, Putin and the Rebirth of Far-Right Politics.

  

Course Lecturer : 

Anthony Angelini is a lecturer with ACE. He has an Mphil in International Peace Studies from Trinity College Dublin and an MA in Journalism and New Media from Munster Technological University. 

 

Requirements: 

Applicants must be at least 18 years old at course commencement.
