Researcher Careers

Advice and Assistance for Researchers in UCC

For many people, being a Post Doc is a way to continue doing something they love and gain added expertise in their subject area in the short term. In the long term however, the nature of academic careers in Ireland means that there are more opportunities for researchers on projects and contracts than there are permanent academic positions. So, no matter what career choice you make, the skills you needed to get to UCC may not be the skills you will need to make your next career move.

Perhaps your longer-term career lies in a different sector or role, if so, it’s important to be aware of the expectations of these employers and make full use of the training available here in UCC to develop the relevant transferrable skills you will need.

Whether you need to discuss issues such as a career change or you just want someone to take a look at your CV or an application; or you just need some quick advice, our dedicated HR Research service, specifically for research staff, has been set up to support you.

We are happy to discuss any aspect of your career, for example, career options, career planning, job search strategies or specific aspects of the application process; you can book an appointment with Carol O'Dwyer HR Research Advisor by contacting carol.odwyer@ucc.ie
